Coated WISA® plywood gets new colour shade

UPM Plywood is updating the colour of the coating on WISA® plywood panels to a darker shade of brown. This change provides the products with a more uniform and modern appearance, without affecting their technical properties or usability.

This update will apply to all UPM’s dark-coated WISA® plywood products, which are used in applications such as flooring for transport vehicles and concrete formwork. The brown colour of the coating will be adjusted to a darker shade.

This visual enhancement is part of the continuous development of both WISA products and their manufacturing and delivery processes.

"By harmonising the shade of coating on WISA plywood panels, we are improving the efficiency of our manufacturing process and strengthening delivery reliability. This is a visual enhancement, and the technical properties of the products remain unchanged," says Harri Nieminen, Product Manager at UPM Plywood.

The durable coating, which offers excellent resistance to wear and chemicals, combined with the panels' outstanding strength-to-weight ratio and dimensional stability, makes coated WISA plywood an ideal choice for transport vehicle flooring and concrete formwork projects.

New shade of WISA products identifiable by pallet markings

The update to the shade of coated WISA plywood panels will be introduced gradually during the first half of 2025, as mills transition to using the new coating.

 
 

As the existing coatings will be used up first, deliveries may contain either the old or the new shade during the transition period. Product manufactured using the new shade can be identified by a “New Colour”  label on the pallet. This allows customers to easily differentiate between the old and new products, particularly when installing panels side by side. Each WISA plywood pallet will  only contain product of one consistent colour.

In addition to the colour update, the text on the coating will be updated over the next six months while UPM refreshes the visual appearance of its logo coatings. Going forward, the products will feature the UPM logo along with the “WISA®-Plywood” text or the specific product name.
